Tzakhkadzor
The name of the town means «the valley of flowers». It is a small resort town set in a forest at the foot of Mt Teghenis. There are lots of vacation houses, hotels and motels here. It is famous for its sports complex that houses several gyms equipped with various facilities, a football field, a race track, and courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis. Sportsmen from all over the world train here. The snow-covered slopes of Tzakhkadzor attract lots of winter sport fans. There is a cableway to take the skiers up to the peak of Mt. Teghenis, from where they ski downhill. There are also a lot of summer camps for children in Tzakhkadzor.
Right in the center of the town is the Kecharis Monastry (11-13th Centuries). It is a wonderful example of medieval Armenian architecture.

Kecharis Monastery
The Kecharis Monastery is in the center of the town of Tsakhkadzor, where Charents and Gregory Magistros Streets intersect.
During the 11th and 13th Centuries, this Monastery had been a crucial learning center in Medieval Armenia.
It has produced the “Nakharar” families such as the Pahlavunis, the Orbelis (Orbelians), the Zakarians, and the Proshians as well as great Armenian academicians and political statesmen such as Grigor magistros Pahlavuni, Vasak Khaghbakian and Khachatur Kecharetsi.
In the late 10th c, the Pahlavuni family inherited the region. The monastery was established by Grigor Magistros Pahlavuni in the early 1000s, who commissioned the first church, S. Grigor Lusavorich in 1033, followed by the smaller S. Nshan (Holy Sign) in 1051.
